After almost 200 years of manufacture, Chubb Locks are one of the most trusted security brands on the market. ASSA ABLOY will continue to manufacture Chubb Locks, however they’re to be rebranded as Yale and Union locks for the foreseeable future.

You can no longer buy door locks, padlocks and additional security products, such as window locks with the Chubb Locks brand. The reason for this is that the Chubb brand owner, UTC, made the decision not to renew the licence to manufacture locks currently held by ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions. The products that people know and trust so well will continue to be manufactured, but since the licence expiry in 2010, can no longer display the Chubb Locks brand.

ASSA ABLOY would have liked to renew the licence which ran from 2000 to 2010 but the decision not to renew by UTC has left them with no choice but to re-brand these products. ASSA ABLOY have taken the decision to transfer the Chubb products with other well-known brands within their portfolio, namely Union locks and Yale locks.

    So what will change?

In short, nothing will change other than the name on the packaging. They are still ‘Chubb at Heart’. The locks and replacement products will still be manufactured by the same people and still be available through the same stockists.

    ASSA ABLOY Director, Paul Browne…

“We are sad to lose the Chubb brand but the reality is that nothing will change other than the name. The same products will be made by the same people, using the same technology in the same factories but, from mid-2010, mortice locks and padlocks will carry the UNION name and additional security, such as window locks, will carry the Yale brand.”

“Wherever possible we are retaining exactly the same part numbers and so householders, locksmiths and installers will still be able to order replacements for existing Chubb products. We will also be providing service and support for existing Chubb locks for many years to come.”

The only place that people will legally be able to purchase Chubb Products after 2010 is through Union and Yale brands.
